1977 Yamaha XS500 Unregistered US Import Classic Running Restoration Project
This tax and mot exempt 1977 Yamaha XS500 has recently been imported from North America where it has spent all its life – the air is thin and the climate is far kinder to motorcycles than ours.
As you can see this bike has a few parts missing – front brake lever and ball end off the clutch lever being the most obvious. The loom is sadly damaged, there's a shallow dent at the top of the tank and the exhausts are rotten.
The wheels are straight with just a few marks on the alloy. The forks and yokes look straight with good chrome. The tail light assy is good as are the headlight and bowl. Instruments and switches look ok. The carburettors are free sliding off the twist grip. The paintwork is slightly faded and the decals are peeling but the fuel tank is squeaky clean inside. The indicators are tidy. The chain guard is tidy. Both mud guards are solid but there is a small dent in the front one.
The engine is cosmetically clean. BUT BEST OF ALL when we hot-wired it, hooked it up to a good battery and fed fresh fuel through the cabr we had it firing/running & revving but the carb will need some attention.
