1978 Yamaha SR500 Unregistered US Import Classic Running Restoration Project
This well-respected, and very much sought-after Tax & MOT exempt 1978 Yamaha SR500 single has recently been imported from North America where it has spent all its life – the climate is far kinder to motorcycles than ours. This and the fact it's only showing 21006 miles and has been in dry storage for a considerable time have helped maintain its boyish good looks.
As you can see this bike is nearly complete missing just the mirrors. Sadly the seat cowl is broken, tank is dented & the engine is losing it’s finnish.
The wheels look straight with working brakes. Forks & yokes look straight with good chrome. Mudguards are both solid. Taillight assy is good as are the headlight & hangers. Instruments & switches look ok. Carburettor is free sliding off the twist grip. Fuel tank is squeaky-clean inside. Exhausts is non-original & solid. Seat is in good condition throughout. Indicators are fairly tidy. Chain guard is solid.
The engine is turns over nicely off the kick starter – sounds/feels great & has compression BUT BEST OF ALL there is life in the battery, fresh fuel in the tank & when we gave it a few prods it fires, starts, runs & revs.
